Fundamentals of Special Care
for Memory Impaired Units

Course Requirements : Take the provided pretest,
read the book "A Way of Life: Developing an Exemplary Alzheimer's
Disease and Dementia Program" by Susan D. Gilster, Ph.D., and
take the provided post test . You may mail or fax your materials
to DH Special Services. Once the materials are received and a
passing grade is determined, your certificate will be mailed to
you. If you are in need of the certificate sooner, a copy can
be faxed to you and the original mailed.
Course Content: The reading of the book "A Way of Life:
Developing an Exemplary Alzheimer's Disease and Dementia Program"
will introduce the participant to the basic concepts of dementia
care and methods to introduce those concepts into practice. The
program emphasizes a team approach to caring for residents with
memory impairment and introduces specific approaches the activity
professional can introduce in their communities.
