Theories and Techniques in Understanding the
Needs of the Elderly

Course Requirements : Take the provided pretest,
read the book "Chasing Butterflies : Life and Care in Aging"
by Lauren Smerglia Seifert, and take the provided post test..
You may mail or fax your materials to DH Special Services. Once
the materials are received and a passing grade is determined,
your certificate will be mailed to you. If you are in need of
the certificate sooner,
a copy can be faxed to you and the original mailed.
Course Content: The reading of the text "Chasing
Butterflies: Life and Care in Aging" will introduce the participant
to specific theories about aging in a very practical way. Sensory
changes, cognition, emotion, spirituality and creativity will
be explored through research and specific examples in practice.
The participant will gain an understanding of proven theory which
supports daily approaches and techniques.
